Wintery Mix

With temperatures in my area dropping down to the 20s, I think it's safe to assume it's going to be one frosty winter.

I looked up things to relay to you about what's hot and what's not this season...when I came across something that Allure said that I was NOT happy about.

http://www.allure.com/magazine/2009/12/holiday_hair_mistakes#slide=1

Out of their top 10 holiday hair mistakes, the first listed was *drum roll*:

Cork Screw curls! Which I naturally have as a biracial person. This is what it said:

'The only corkscrew you want this season is one that opens a bottle of wine. "There's nothing flattering about tight curls on anyone over the age of seven," says hairstylist Mark'
...Wow, I'm sorry that some of us don't have straight, fine, European Hair...Geez.

Christmas/Hannukah List:

Yep I decided to get the perfume :]

THIS SEASON:

-Purple Eyes and Nails
-Copper, metallic violet, electric navy eyes

I'll try to be back more often. Add me on Myspace- www.myspace.com/482207703

The smell of elegance

Trying to decide between two new scents to make my signature scent
Lola by Marc Jacobs or Parisienne by Yves Saint Laurent

I'm also thinking about getting a new hair cut that might involve frequent straightening of my kinky curls. But hey sometimes beauty has it's price- although I wouldn't go bald for it! haha
should I get one like this? have any suggestions?

Oh yeah and I don't care if this is not in this season but I'm going to be rockin some hot pink lipstick cause I look damn good in it!

Went to H&M yesterday and picked up a few things including this black banded high-waisted mini skirt

and boy was I surprised to discover that H&M is pairing up with JIMMY CHOO this season- cheaper bags, shoes, and clothes! Too bad I still can't really afford it :[ I need a job!

Check out Lindsay Lohan's colab with Ungaro for their Spring 2010 collection. Very interesting...too bad she walked out during the show and rolled her eyes at the audience! Bad Lindsay...

I WANNA MAKE A SHOUT OUT TO MY COUSIN NICOLE HELME- you should check out her new baby clothing line http://www.lululovecouture.com/ and spread the word! The stuff is adorable and if I had a baby I'd make them wear it all.

We live on a Mountain

My favorite song and my favorite artist in the whole entire world.

This is her performing her best in the 90s I believe- this performance made me fall in love with her.

Curly hair tips (Since there are none out there!)

*If you have curly or coarse hair: Once a week, apply a deep conditioner that contains keratin to just-shampooed hair. Leave it on for ten minutes. The conditioners seal the cuticle to keep out moisture (which helps prevent frizz), while the keratin strengthens hair to resist damage. (Brooke Le Poer Trench 2009).

*Leave-in-conditioner is a must- you can find a light one in any beauty supply store or in target or walmart, walgreens, rite aid, etc. If you're of/or mixed with African- American decent or have unruly curls try to find Indian Hemp (It's green and usually really cheap) it has a waxy oil texture but works wonders.

*Air-dry hair when possible- towel-drying can cause much frizz and tangles. If air drying is not an option, wrap your hair in a towl BUT DON'T RUB! try to stay away from blow-drying if possible.

*While in the shower wet hair completely first and brush out before shampooing. Rinse shampoo out and condition. While conditioner is in- comb hair with fingers to revive curls with tangles. rinse, dry, and leave- in- condition.

*Mix leave-in-conditioner with a light gel or silicone based product to fight frizz.

Hope that was helpful! comment if you need some more advice :]

Altered Reality

It's possible to alter your own reality- though it might not be warped into something surreal. You are in control of how you react to things which is almost all the basis of life...
Actions and reactions- think about it.

Recently reconnected with a friend I havent't talked to in a year. You would think things would be a little awkward but to be honest we picked up right where we left off except he's mad mature now and has a girlfriend. No biggie, not tryna hop on that haha. The reason why we just easily reconnected is because of how we chose to react to us talking again and it was positive.

Feels like my cell phone was just devirginized all over again. Texts and calls like crazy. I like it though :]

I've just been bored or busy lately. nothing in between.

Ugh I wanna look this good-

OH YEAH AND GUESS WHAT? 7 FOLLOWERS!!!! woohoo i must be doin something right

The smell of cinders and rain

"And when the fires came
The smell of cinders and rain
Perfumed almost everything
We laughed and laughed and laughed
And in the golden blue
Crying took me to the darkest place
And you have set fire to my heart"

Oh Natasha Khan you are lovely.

Thanks for the advice everyone about the situation!!!

So my parents haven't talked to me in 3 days straight except simple conversation such as "Hello, how are you?" or, "Come and get some dinner!"
Everything they say that should sound warm and welcoming has been replaced with a coldness that makes my teeth want to shutter.

And you want to know how I feel about it? I've been going about life normally because I feel that if they can't accept me as a person than maybe I shouldn't be warm to them? I don't really know how I feel...ALL I know is that I will no longer accept to be treated like a 16 yr old. Everyone makes mistakes and how they are raising me is to believe that adults don't make mistakes so if I get this taken care of while I'm young- I'll be perfect.

NOT TRUE. They think it's the end of the world when I do something that upsets them but if they talk to alot of other parents- they'll have worse problems between them and their children no doubt. It's just a piercing calm down.

ANYWAY- tell me

light lips or dark lips?

opaque tights or leggings?

gold or silver?

beret or riding cap?

floral scent or musk?

Random or structured?

...live your life or have someone plan it out for you?

yeah that's what I thought haha.

oh yeah and guess what- Scarlett Johansson has a septum piercing hells yea.

Drama

I don't mean to make this blog personal but I need something to turn to.
My parents found out last night that I had my septum pierced and freaked...I just don't know what to do anymore I feel like I am only noticed when I screw up and it's not fair to me. I guess that's how it is when you live the life of a lapdog. I feel like it's hard for me to be myself while also trying to please them. I can't win and I feel like I never will.
I feel like a burnt out cig- everyone just wants a new one after thy're done with it. I catch just keep starting over new.

Any suggestions?

Fashion and Olive Oil?

So can I please just say that I found out that Diesel- yes Diesel- Is selling wine and olive oil now? I mean...c'mon you make enough money off of your clothes!

Tell me what you think: here's the link: http://www.nylonmag.com/?section=article&parid=3611
Marc Jacobs is life as we all know :] and his runway looks are to die for! Fushia lips and big bows make these models look like youth

I think with fall comes awesome fashion so don't be afraid to get out there and be confident! I'm sick of everybody complaining about their bodies- their legs aren't long enough, their arms are chubby, their face is too small- you know what? At least you have what you got! some people aren't fortunate enough to have legs and arms you get me?

Have fun!

When I run in the dark...

It is officially fall. Is it just me or does anybody feel like fall is refreshing? When the cool air hits your face and you can start wearing layers to keep you warm.

...But sometime I miss how things used to be. Like Autumn at Juniata with friends and Halloween in high school. When you were a little too old to be trick-or-treating but not TOO old haha. I miss having a tight group of friends and now all i have is Lauren and a few that I'm making at Kean. I just wanna go back there. Somewhere only we know.

"And when the fires came,
The smell of cinders and rain
Perfumed almost everything.
We laughed and laughed and laughed
And in the golden blue
Crying took me to the darkest place,
And you have set fire to my heart."

Natasha Khan your lyrics are nostolgic.

Not to mention she has incredible style too!

Domestic Apparel

Yeah so you can say that I'm completely obsessed with two things in my life right now:

My navy blue american apparel body suit that flatters me oh so nicely...
oh yeah AND Leigh Lezark.
I've had an unhealthy obssession with her since Junior year of highschool so its been a good 4 years. I mean- whats not to be obssessed with?

She is an awesome DJ

She is gorgeous

Her hair is awesome

She's stylish

and mysterious.

I want to run into her in person one day...I don't know what I'd do actually.

...probably faint.

Made an extra 60 bucks for the wallet today babysitting which consists of dino nuggets, diet coke, playing video games, and reading bedtime stories.

Made two solid best friend figures at school and they're both in my drawing class. They're rad as hell. Basically my life at Kean right now.

Golden Rocks

As Beirut once said, In my good times there were always golden rocks to throw. It's my good time and things are goin.

I've been consumed with starting at a new school (ended up transferring to Kean Univeristy as an Art major!) Adjusting but I miss Pennsylvania. But I love New Jersey hehe

So Flip out ladies! Anna Sui presented a runway show at this latest fashion week where the models actually moved around to pose! She had them very Marsha Brady themed with 70s haircuts middle parts and bang. The pose they did was a hair flip here are the instruction (courtesy of Nylon Magazine 2009)
Here's how it works:

1. Put on some music, preferably The White Stripes, The Kills, or The Brady Bunch Family Album. Face the camera (or your friends) with a slight smile.

2. Step forward, hard, while keeping your body upright.

3. Smile even bigger, as if you're a '60s television star, while pivoting quickly on your front foot.

4. Whoosh around so your hair literally whips through the air.

5. Keep on walking

And Music: Jane Bang check her out!

summer accents

Notes 10.08pm Maplewood NJ

packed bags are moved to a car and no tears are shed. An overstayed welcome is what it feels like. i'm happy it's just my family now. a dog's nails tap gently on worn hardwood floors. Creeking when weight's applied. Quand serai-t-j'à l'aise avec ma vie ? Je me sens comme j'attends quelque chose pour arriver. I'm waiting oh so patiently.

Summery pics now i love big floral prints- reminds me of the 90s but more classy. Gold shorts- I think so :] got them from express and got the top from H&M
oh yeah and i finally got me a tube of nude colored lipstick by revlon and it works like a gem :]

Notes 1.50pm East Meadow Long Island

Remains of a crumbling staircase intrude the cookie-cutter perfect of a Long Island backyard. Although someone might think of it as an eye-soar, it retains it's once pristine inner beauty beyond the dusty foundation. Plants show their acceptance by gently embracing the cement. As I lift a diet coke can to my nude painted lips, condensation drips down my fingers making my skin chill. Summer is approaching its 9 month slumber.

Finally got around to taking pictures of that grey mod dress and grey boots that I got recently. I hope you like them- and feel free to leave suggestions!

The vastness of the sky

Notes. 6.16 pm NJ

My freckles, like stars in space, multiply and shine even through my dark darkest skin. But my soul- it fails to accomplish such aspirations. It likes to stick within its comfort zone. Trying to convince itself that its not there to begin with. Kind of like a bug in a park- knowing its part of something big but still has little significance.

So, I'm not going back to Juniata this fall. I hate second-guessing myself. I had a change of heart and tried to convince my parents to let me go back. They told me in january I could if things go well. So, I'm stuck in Jersey and I am disappointed in my decisions lately.

I just don't know if this is only happening to me- or is it happening to everyone my age? I need a change. Shit I'm gonna be 21 in a few months. I need something really miraculous to happen to me soon. Take away this artificial-ness.

I need something real.

Bought some classic Ralph Lauren Sweaters yesterday to get ready for the fall. Lip colors range from plum to pale or nude. I think I'm going to let my hair grow out really long and curly. Maybe add a some color to it. Any thoughts? more blonde?

An alteration

Thought I'd switch up the layout a little and put my notes first.

Notes. 12.46pm Maplewood
The heat and zephyr bring wafts of a rotting rat into the vicinity.
The flies swarm and fight over something that they could not kill themselves.
The situation is distasteful.
How could such a disgustingly brilliant creature manage to go that way?
Overgorwn weeds flourish through the cracks of an old walkway.
Vines grow up the side of the B wing of Columbia Highschool.
It sickens me to think about how I even attended such a poorly taken care of school.
1889 freshly built.
Rain is waiting to pour through the clouds to create a complete mess of this spoiled flesh.
How unfortunate.
Biodegradable.
Dear Mr. Butterfly,
Good luck trying to find a decent flower in this area.
Sincerly,
I.

I like umbrellas, they're odd creations, yet useful. My question is- when is it gonna feel like summer? It's almost August and geez louise it hasn't felt like summer this whole time...

It had it's fun moments and its plenty of bad ones.
I want to start dating. I wanna open up my soul to someone.

Got tons of shoes yesterday- maybe like 8 pairs haha. I needed them all mine started to smell. I got these rad grey ankleboots and I am in love with them. Too bad it rained today so I couldn't wear them... find them at- http://www.dsw.com/dsw_shoes/catalog/product.jsp?productRef=SEARCH&category=&prodId=193300

Sweet sounds

Beirut once said the most beautiful words I've ever heard. So honest and poetic,

"The shattered soul, following close but nearly twice as slow.

In my good times, there were always golden rocks to throw

at those who admit defeat too late

Those were our times, those were our times"

I want to speak beautiful words and scribe them onto paper. I want to do everything in a beautiful way- but what will that take?

Oh yeah so today I was told many times that I looked like Billie Holiday which is awesome haha it was how I did my hair and makeup.

I have an oversized white men's dress shirt that I plan to put together with this beautiful belt that I have that I got from Buffalo Exchange in Williamsburg Brooklyn. I can't wait to be free so I can wear it haha.

Notes. 7.47pm NJ

A dog scratches his itching skin to achieve alleviation however he breaks skin. Red. He takes a drink of water to hydrate himself. Panting slobbery mouths. Hanging laundry attempts to dry in the humid air. My laptop is dying.

Geez Louise

3 weeks. 504 hours. When you put it that way, it's been a while hasn't it. Don't ask me why it's been so long, quite honestly I can't even find it in myself to answer that. Yes, I have been busy but, I guess I lost sight of what I intended for this blog.

What if I told you I have big dreams? Would you laugh at them? I want to express myself, but sometimes I just don't know how. I don't wanna live someone else's dreams that's for sure.
I need some positive influences I think. I need a change.

Notes. 10.09pm. NJ

A swollen mouth has so much to say but no way to heal itself. Sometimes I feel like my soul has had enough searching for something that is held so highly. I feel like I live in a world littered with color and I can only see the Black and White of 1950s television shows. I don't mind though- sometimes people overlook the simple beauties of the world.
A sticky keyboard still shines with all of its might. Wires wind in and out of papers. Disorganization is my mother's way.

Time goes by..so slowly

I've been super busy with classes and working I'm so stressed out. I apologize for the inconvenience.
Heard the BET awards sucked pretty bad this year...doesn't surprise me at all. Oh and I've been hearing Michael Jackson every corner I turn- much creepier than previous years...R.I.P.

One the other end of the music world, I'd like to talk about one of my favorite bands- Beirut. I've been obsessed with gypsy music and culture since early high school and to hear Beirut's gypsy and eastern European influence is refreshing. The gentle voice with gypsy horns is complete radness.

Favorite songs by them- "St. Apollonia" and "Postcards from Italy" (lyrical geniuses too) ha

check out the gypsy style also- loose garments that flows and a few gaudy jewelery items ;]

The Girl From Ipanema

If you enjoy a great jazzy, oldie tune check out "The Girl From Ipanema" by Astrud Gilberto. So romantically charming and makes you feel like having a cocktail and ciggarette. 1960s style you know how I roll :]

here's the link- http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=G9U6URQSF6U

"Tall and tan and young and lovely,

the girl from Ipanema goes walking And when she passes, each one she passes goes - ah

When she walks, she's like a samba that swings so cool and sways so gently"

Best I Ever had...the best I ever haddd.

Lily Allen has exceptional style. Not everyone likes her but I can point out a few things that I like about her.

1. She's got a classic simple look and needs very little makeup.

2. She's not afraid to be crazy with her fashion.

3. She's not afraid to speak her mind.

4. She's curvy and not stick thin (although she has lost quite a bit of lbs.)

I mean and she has a british accent..a bit posh but she's rad.

My fave songs by her- "Knock 'em out," "Alfie," and, " Oh My God."

Notes 2.14pm NJ
The memories of a friend's London accent makes her smile. Last night's party leaves me drained. I need sleep. But I refuse. Lawn mowers reluctantly voice their opinions in the distance. I wish my life were a movie- It'd be crazy. No, Barry White, I can't enough of YOUR love baby. I hate the sounds of aim IMs ha. screwin up my groove session...can't a girl just get down over here geez.
